Bitcoin, as a cryptocurrency and an alternative payment solution has gained popularity in certain circles. Existing\nliterature offers discussions that are very specific, oftentimes about Bitcoin-related technical issues, but few takes the\nperspective of an overview that offers an understanding of how Bitcoin may work to the potential user. Though some\nlevel of technical understanding is required to appreciate the workings of Bitcoin, it is not necessary to fully understand\nBitcoin�s computational system. The goal of this paper is to provide a working overview to Bitcoin, while highlighting\ncurrent issues and possible advantages. Published literature is reviewed, along with current developments published on\nreliable Bitcoin-related websites and news reports, to ensure relevancy and timeliness as far as possible. The research\nconducted revealed that Bitcoin has many issues to be resolved before it can be taken as a mainstream payment option\nand currency, but has defined advantages that may only be developed with the advancement of time and consequently\ntechnology....
This study examined the effectiveness of ICT adoption on Non-Financial Performance of\nquoted manufacturing industries in Nigeria. The study adopted stratified sampling technique\nfor the selection of 76 respondents from the study area. Primary data was used for this study.\nRegression analysis model was used to establish the extent of the relationship between\nobserved variables. The variables include ICT, growth and efficiency. The Adj. R- squared\n(0.3402, 0.2167) revealed that there is a feeble relationship between ICT and Non-Financial\nPerformance of quoted manufacturing industries. The hypotheses of this study are measured\nat level of 95% confidence interval. In continuation to the findings from this research, it\nrevealed that the adoption of ICT in quoted manufacturing companies operations over the\nyears has really contributed to the effectiveness, quality of service as well as customer\nsatisfaction. It was recommended that ICT should be align with business plan in order to\nenhance manufacturing company effectiveness, quality of service and customer satisfaction\nin order to enhance organizational objectives....
The aim of the study was to examine the impact of corporate governance practices on firm's\ncash holdings of listed manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka, using panel data extracted\nfrom the financial statements of the companies listed on Colombo Stock Exchange. Corporate\ngovernance practices of Sri Lankan listed manufacturing companies were measured by board\nindependence, board size, CEO duality, audit committee meetings and audit committee\nmembers, cash holdings were measured by percentage of cash and cash equivalents on total\nassets and also leverage and firm size were considered as control variables. Data were\ncollected from 26 listed manufacturing companies over a five years period of 2011-2015.\nPooled Ordinary Least Square, Fixed Effect and Random Effect models were performed\nusing STATA to explore the best model for the impact of corporate governance practices on\nfirm's cash holdings. Results of the study revealed that fixed effect model was the best model\nwith the evidence of Hausman specification test. According to the fixed effect model,\nCEO-duality and leverage had significant negative impact on cash holdings while audit\ncommittee meetings and firm size had positive impact on cash holdings of the listed\nmanufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. Board independence, board size and audit committee\nmembers did not show any significant impact on cash holdings. Findings of the study may be\nuseful to practitioners to identify the effects of corporate governance practices on firm's cash\nholdings....
Exchange rate fluctuations generate high risk for the insurance companies in Egypt, such as\nbankruptcy and liquidity. This study aims to measure the foreign exchange exposure (FXE)\nfor the life insurance companies in Egypt during the period from 2000-2016. After that, the\nstudy measures the determinants of this exposure. The problem of the study is concerned with\nthe fluctuations of the foreign exchange rate in Egypt, which have a great effect on the\nfinancial performance. Following prior studies (e.g. Lee, 2011 and Ampomah 2012), this\nstudy uses Jorian model to measure the FXE. The results of the study show that the life\ninsurance companies in Egypt were significant to the FXE; the results are robust to the choice\nof model design....
This study critically examined the effect of corporate social responsibility on the profitability of\nNigerian banks using the ECOWAS bank (popularly known as ECO Bank) and First Bank of\nNigeria as case studies. The objectives of the study are to: examine the relationship between\nenvironmental concerns and return on investment; investigate how corporate governance\naffects the gross margin of consumer banks; and ascertain whether suppliers� reward improves\nreturn on equity of Nigerian consumer banks. The questionnaire was adopted as the instrument\nfor data collection, and the responses derived from the questionnaire were analyzed using\nsimple frequency tables, Pearson correlation, regression analysis and ANOVA test statistics\nusing the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. Findings from this study\nindicate that corporate social responsibility has a positive influence on the profitability of banks\noperating in Nigeria, given the institutional deficiencies in the country. It is concluded that an\ninvestment into social responsibility positively influences the bank�s reputation and image,\nthereby leading to stronger customer loyalty. It is therefore recommended that banks operating\nin especially developing countries like Nigeria look beyond financial profit to social profit\nderived from social responsibility....
